Yang style Mainland 24 was created in 1956 by a symposium of tai chi masters brought together by the Chinese government. It is an introductory level form taught to beginners that takes 5 to 7 minutes to perform.

The 64, aka Guang Ping Yang style or Original Style is a more strenuous intermediate/advanced level form that takes 15 to 20 minutes to perform on one side. It represents a transition from the "hard" Chen style to the "soft" Yang style, containing primarily soft, slow movements with occassional fast, explosive movements.

History

Little River Kung Fu School derives its name from three main sources:

  1. We used to train next to a creek in Bangor, PA. in the early 80s.

  2. Kung Fu training is one of the many tributaries or pathways that flow towards the ocean of cosmic bliss, universal oneness or enlightenment.

  3. A Tai Chi practitioner should be like water, flowing over obstacles.

The school began in 1980 in New York, as the New York Kung Fu Loft, residing in Soho, Brooklyn and Chinatown. The school then migrated westward to New Jersey, then to Pennsylvania, and now to Northern California.
