10am to noon -- Qigong - review all breathing forms, one guided, standing meditation, and after-stretch w/Bar Duan Gin

12noon - Lunch (shared, planned potluck on deck - bring favorite dish - in-season, local, organic, or a drink if too busy to prepare)

1 to 1:30pm - warm-ups, stretches, bonus material to remedy complaints (sore knees, stiff necks, etc ...) "I feel your pain!"  Bring me your pains, and weaknesses.

1:30 to 2:30pm - long form review, in three twenty minute thirds, in depth, with corrections (approx. 21 moves per segment), with breaks at each third for questions and trial applications.

2:30 to 4:30pm - push hands, switch partners, guided drills and/or free style for whoever chooses, elephant boxing-(slight moves and STOP to adjust), single-handed, double-handed, fixed step, and moving step as needed.

4:30 to 5pm  - Do-In (self-massage) Hot tub optional. Bring a towel for sitting on, or drying off, (chairs optional). You may learn the self-massage while in the tub, or a chair, or on the deck. This will get rid of the soreness so you can train hearty on Monday. Do In
moves stagnant energy and is a good general practice for maintaining a balanced flow of energy, and preventing sickness. It is easy to remember and a life saver when you have aches and pains.

If it is too chilly, we will retreat to the living room and push the furniture out of the way. No disrobing needed. (Just of shoes and socks).

I need a head count by Oct. 1st for food purchase. I will make something delish and just right for the post stomach/spleen, pre lung/large intestine time of year.

To deepening the enjoyment and demystification of T'ai Chi Ch'uan!

Tai Chi Workshop
Orinda Community Center
Saturday, February 23, 2008

Learn how to deliver and absorb force, how to maintain your own mental and physical health, and how to improve rather than deteriorate with age.

House One will consist of an in-depth analysis of standing meditation, why it is a complimentary practice to Tai Chi, and how to stand, after which, we will stand with guided thought, small movements, and light contact to maximize relaxation, awareness and energy. All questions answered.

Hour Two will consist of warm-ups, stretches, and foundational drills. These drills will define the range of motion for Guang Ping Yang stance work — low and wide. Expect to generate lots of heat and work your mind and spirit as much as your body. All questions answered.

Hour Three will consist of the first five moves of the form, using the movements on each other with counters, and counters to the counters. You will learn a basic push hands drill that will help deepen your root, extend your reach, and increase your sensitivity. The basic drill will help you develop spontaneous push hands skill.

Questions about any style of Tai Chi or other martial arts are encouraged. There is no fee for currently enrolled Orinda Community Center class members, or for teachers bringing three or more students. The fee is $30. Syin Nyan Kwai Le! (Happy New Year!). -Marilyn Cooper
